Le Genou De Claire 1970 1h 45 mins
Set in the stunning scenery of the lac d’Annecy, this film follows career diplomat Jérôme on his summer holiday, enjoying free time away from his fiancée. He hangs out with teenage Laura and amuses himself walking in the mountains and chatting with her, but then his feelings become more complex and confused when he sees her older step-sister Claire climbing a ladder and notices her perfect knee.
This is one of Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales, exciting and intelligent portraits of usually self-centered, articulate, often foolish men and the women they belittle, idolize, stalk, and long for. All staged his signature with offhand visual imagination and full of electrifying high-stakes verbal showdowns.
