Welcome to the Malvern French Film Centre
The Malvern French Film Centre shows French films on the big screen once a month from September to June each year, in association with the French Institute’s IF Cinéma and Arts Alive. Each April we run The Malvern French Film Festival, a six-film weekend of themed French films. We are proud to be recognised as a regional centre for French cinema by the Institute Français du Royame Uni. All films are shown with English subtitles and are screened in Malvern Theatres‘ Studio One, Grange Road, Malvern, WR14 3HB.

Six Films Across Two Days Introduced By Fiona Handyside Of The University Of Exeter
Spend a spring weekend in the glorious Malvern Hills and enjoy six films by the best French women directors… films from the first lady of the Nouvelle Vague, Agnès Varda, to today’s Palme d’Or and Oscar winners, we are showing six stand out films chosen to represent the best of French female cinematic talent.
The weekend, and each film, will be introduced by Fiona Handyside, Associate Professor in Film Studies at the University of Exeter, and a true Franco-Cinephile, open to any ticket holder for one or more films in the Festival, without charge.
Fiona has lived and worked in France and written extensively about many aspects of French cinema, including the filmmakers Agnès Varda, Céline Sciamma, Diane Kurys and Mia Hansen-Løve. She also has a special soft spot for films that feature donkeys, more about which will be revealed in her introduction to Antoinette dans les Cévennes (My Donkey, My Lover And I), on Sunday morning. Fiona will be providing a short introduction to each film throughout the weekend, illuminating the audience’s viewing beyond the norm.
France has a dynamic and exciting tradition of female directors working across the art-house and the popular. Their films offer a great range of period, theme and genre, reflected in our choices for our weekend Festival. Indeed, there are more female directors working in France than in any other country’s film industry in the world. As a rough rule of thumb one third of French films are directed by a woman, compared to around only 10-15 percent of Hollywood films. In 2008 all five films nominated for the Best First Film César were directed or co-directed by a woman. We hope you will enjoy our selection of great films that just happen to be directed, and in many cases also written, by women.

Tickets
Tickets for the Malvern French Film Festival cost £6/film or buy tickets for all 6 films for £30. For this offer please call the box office on 01684 892277, we’re sorry but this discount cannot be offered online.
We are delighted to say that our regular ticket price has reduced this season. Our collaboration with the French Government funded IF Cinéma means that we have been able to lower our ticket price to £6. In another change this Season, to accommodate our growing audiences we will be showing films twice, at 3.15pm and 6.45pm (except Un Homme et Une Femme in December). The early afternoon screening is proving very popular and we recommend booking ahead, even on the day, to be sure of your seats.
Booking Information
Tickets can be booked via the Malvern Theatres’ box office (01684 892277) in person or online or bought on the day subject to availability. A link to book tickets is also on each film page of this website.
